Krillion Scoring System: Depth Meter, Rarity Tiers & 7,000m Dive
Understand how Krillion calculates points, rarity tiers (Too Clever to Krillion), time bonuses, and the mathematical path to 7,000m depth.
FAQ
How does Krillion convert points into ocean depth?
What happens if my answer is incorrect or if the 25-second timer runs out?
Why is a 60-point answer often statistically better than guessing an obscure 100-point term?
How does the Krillion scoring engine work?
Krillion converts trivia precision into ocean submarine depth, awarding up to 100 points per round across 7 consecutive daily challenges. Each earned point equals exactly 10 meters of descent into the ocean, allowing players to dive from the surface down to a maximum possible depth of 7,000 meters (the Hadal zone).
Unlike traditional trivia games that reward speed alone or binary right/wrong answers, Krillion calculates your score based on the statistical rarity of your submission compared against all other players worldwide on that calendar day.
What are the 5 Krillion rarity tiers?
Every valid submission in Krillion is categorized into one of five distinct scoring tiers based on the percentage of daily participants who submitted that exact same term:
| Tier Name | Points Awarded | Depth Gained | Global Player Distribution | Typical Answer Profile |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Too Clever | 10 pts | 100 meters | > 35% of players | Mainstream pop-culture icons, massive capital cities, obvious defaults |
| Schooler | 30 pts | 300 meters | 15% β 35% of players | Secondary textbook examples, famous historical events, prominent athletes |
| Rare | 60 pts | 600 meters | 5% β 15% of players | Solid trivia knowledge, non-headline world leaders, regional landmarks |
| Deep Cut | 85 pts | 850 meters | 1% β 5% of players | Niche academic knowledge, lesser-known elements, vintage cinema auteurs |
| Krillion Tier | 100 pts | 1,000 meters | < 1% of players | Legitimate, verifiable answers that almost no other daily player thought to submit |
A zero-point score occurs only during an invalid submission, a spelling failure, or when the 25-second countdown timer reaches zero without an active entry.
What is the mathematical cost of a round miss?
Because Krillion evaluates your cumulative 7-round performance, a single 0-point miss is mathematically catastrophic to your overall leaderboard standing.
Consider the comparison between two distinct playing styles over 7 rounds:
- Aggressive Gambler (Chasing 100s): Five 100-point rounds (5,000m), but two invalid guesses resulting in 0 points (0m). Total Depth: 5,000 meters.
- Calculated Strategist (Prioritizing 60s & 85s): Three 85-point rounds (2,550m) and four 60-point rounds (2,400m) with zero misses. Total Depth: 4,950 meters.
- Master Competitor (Balanced Knowledge): Four 100-point rounds (4,000m) and three 85-point rounds (2,550m). Total Depth: 6,550 meters.
The data proves that eliminating zero-point misses is far more influential than chasing a solitary 100-point Krillion chime at the risk of a timeout.
Category-specific scoring variations
Different subject matters have distinct rarity distributions:
- Geography: Continental and capital city prompts suffer from severe answer clustering around Western Europe and North America. Review our Krillion Geography Guide to bypass common regional traps.
- Science: Highly standardized nomenclature makes transition metals and planetary satellites reliable high-tier targets. See our Krillion Science Guide.
- Sports & Entertainment: Household stars like Messi, LeBron, or Marvel films immediately trigger the 10-point band. Explore our Krillion Sports Guide and Krillion Movies Guide to learn safe deep-tier alternatives.
- History: Ancient civilizations and pre-1500 chronology offer high rarity yields. Check our Krillion History Guide.
